Abigail Williams: Why?
Abigail is the main villain in The Crucible, completely driven by her personal desire towards John Proctor. Elizabeth found out about the affair, and fired Abigail and kicked her out in the streets. Abigail, blinded by rage and envy, started to plot a revenge against Elizabeth and achieve John back. Abigail stands a major role in the witchcraft hysteria. She claims herself to see and hear supernatural stuff, such as ghost and god’s message. She helps the court to decide either the accused is guilty or innocent. She plans to get rid of Elizabeth by accusing her as a witch and make her guilty for it. She stabs herself with a needle and claim that Elizabeth cursed her by using a doll and sticking a needle in. Even though John made it clear that he does not want Abigail back and he loves Elizabeth, her rage and envy drives Abigail to kill Elizabeth Proctor. She eventually thinks that when Elizabeth is gone, she would be successful to get John to love her back.
